Wambugu Thuo Joins Sankofa as Vice President of Construction Operations

Sankofa Construction LLC welcomes Wambugu Thuo as Vice President of Construction Operations.

Background

Wambugu brings to Sankofa a career built where housing, finance, and community development meet. Born and raised in Kenya, he spent the first part of his career organizing communities around housing and the environment. He managed community liaison and mobilization for environmental programs at the district level and across the wider Rift Valley for the Kenya Energy and Environment Organization in Nakuru, and consulted on participatory project management for TEARFUND UK in Kenya and Tanzania and for the Danish Association for International Co-operation. He served on the planning team for Nakuru town’s sustainable development and environmental management program, and founded and chaired NACOB Kenya, a community-based housing cooperative.

In the United States he moved into housing finance. He worked as a residential mortgage banker in New Jersey and Florida, then as a home mortgage consultant and manager, and served on the board of a New Jersey capital fund where he qualified borrowers and analyzed real estate deals for lending.

Wambugu joins the leadership team alongside founder and CEO Jerry Fosu, whose vision has been building for the community by the community. That work now runs from residential and commercial construction through the apprenticeship and workforce training programs that put local people on the job.
