YOUR PWCR REQUIRES A REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM. WE ARE ONE.

Since May 1, 2019, New Jersey law has required every holder of a Public Works Contractor Registration who directly employs craftworkers to participate in a registered apprenticeship program for each craft employed. No registered apprenticeship, no PWCR. No PWCR, no public work. The grace period for contractors who had applied but were not yet approved ended in April 2020.

YOUR OPTIONS

Sign a union agreement. That is a business model decision, not a compliance decision.

Sponsor your own program. Appendix A work process schedules, ETA-671 filings for every apprentice, an EEO plan, a written affirmative action plan once you reach five apprentices, and five years of records. Months of work before your first apprentice starts.

Partner with us. We already hold the registration. You supervise an apprentice and sign the hours.

WHAT YOU GET

Compliance, documented for each craft you employ and ready for inspection. A trained apprentice - screened, enrolled, OSHA 10 complete, and through the first block of classroom instruction before their first day on your site. No classroom burden: all 576 hours of related technical instruction are ours, delivered online and at our Plainfield facility. And the paperwork stays with us - registration, ETA-671s, wage progression records, EEO compliance, five-year retention.

WHAT IT COSTS

$4,500 per apprentice, per year. Monthly and quarterly payment plans available. New Jersey has paid up to $12,000 per registered apprentice through its GAINS program, including half the apprentice's wage for the first twelve months. For most contractors that makes an apprentice cash-positive in year one. We will help you apply, and we will tell you honestly whether a round is currently open.

OUR REGISTERED OCCUPATIONS

Carpenter - RAPIDS 0067, four years, 8,000 on-the-job hours, $35.00 journeyworker rate. Operating Engineer, Heavy Equipment - RAPIDS 0432, three years, 6,000 hours, $32.00. Construction Craft Laborer - RAPIDS 0661, two years, 4,000 hours, $18.00. Masonry, plumbing, electrical and welding are in development. If you self-perform one of those, tell us below - a contractor willing to say they would participate is part of how those occupations get registered.

WHO WE ARE

Sankofa Construction, LLC sponsors USDOL Registered Apprenticeship Program No. 2024-NJ-127946, registered with the Office of Apprenticeship in February 2024. Sankofa Builders Inc., our 501(c)(3), delivers the training from 935 South Second Street in Plainfield - a building our own crew and apprentices are renovating themselves. We train people from this city for careers in this trade. But the reason to call is simpler: you need a registered apprenticeship program, and building one yourself is work you do not want.
